A Native sends an e-mail to Dunkin’ Donuts

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Joshua Hunt and I am Native American. I am Southern Cheyenne; an enrolled tribal member of the Cheyenne & Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma.

Yesterday I purchased a large coffee from one of your establishments in University Heights, OH 44118.

On the cup it said, "PROUD PARTNER OF THE CLEVELAND INDIANS." (see attached photo)

The Cleveland baseball team promotes harmful, racist stereotypes toward Native Americans such as myself. Having this proclamation on your cup creates a hostile environment for me and my family; as well as others who are aware of the harm Native American sports nicknames and mascots cause.

By being a "partner" of the Cleveland baseball team, your franchise is engaging in discrimination. You are singling out Native Americans to be racially stereotyped.

Why should I or anyone else continue to frequent your establishment?

Dunkin' Donuts's reputation is on the line here.

You can read more about the harm of Native American sports nicknames, like the Cleveland Indians, at the following links:
